The term “underrepresented students” in the context of this study refers to both historically underrepresented students, including students with disabilities, students who are BIPOC, First Gen students, and Undocumented students, in addition to students facing particular hardships in a virtual or pandemic setting this year, such as international students, student caregivers, or students who have COVID-19 or family members with COVID-19.

In keeping with the holder of identities practice, DL facilitated the Asian focus group, RF the Latinx and LGBTQIA+ focus groups, and NM and SH the international and Arab focus groups, and LR the Black student focus group. For Indigenous students, consent was obtained from the participants to allow students who don’t hold the affinity group identities to come into the space to facilitate as no one in the research team held the Indigenous identity.
